Welcome to the Chelmsford Art Trail 2003 virtual tour.

There is something for everyone in the Chelmsford Art Trail 2003. The Art Trail aims to give people visiting the town centre the opportunity to see original works, from photography to bronze, glass to paint, produced by local professional artists. It is being run by ACTIVATE, Chelmsford's Visual Arts Group, who also organised the successful ‘Chilled’ – Mid-Winter arts event in January 2003.

.

Open from Friday 25th July to Friday 29th August 2003

In all we have 15 venues around town participating by showing the work of 17 individual artists and art groups. Here's just a taste of what you'll find when you see the Art Trail.

Begin the Virtual Trail by visiting the Map page.

The works of art will be displayed in shops & offices across the town centre. This will be an excellent opportunity for residents and visitors to Chelmsford town centre to view a range of original contemporary 2D & 3D artworks. One of the aims is to bring the visual arts to people who might not normally enter a formal gallery setting.

Individual local artists are represented along with work produced at workshops held during the ACTIVATE’s ‘Chilled’ – Mid-Winter arts event and the ‘Cathedral Festival in the Community’. Also on show will be a selection of work from 'Foot in the Door' an ACTIVATE project which enables businesses to display work in their offices all year round.

Children and the young at heart will also have the opportunity to follow the trail using a Treasure Hunt style Quiz sheet. Leaflet/posters will be available giving details of the artists and a map of the art trail venues.

ACTIVATE are being supported by both Chelmsford Borough Council Leisure Services and Essex Cultural Services to provide an excellent opportunity to view work from local professional artists.

The Visual Arts have been proven to be a positive and beneficial activity for towns and cities even contributing to a regeneration of a place or community.
